The dates for the 2014 Disaster Response Academy have been scheduled. The academy, presented jointly by UMCOR and the South Central Jurisdiction, will be held September 8th through the 11th at the Canyon Camp Methodist Retreat located west of Oklahoma City.
DeWitt Cox, Disaster Response Coordinator for the Texas Annual Conference noted “The change of venue for this year’s academy will present us with the opportunity to learn from those who worked in response to the nearby tornado devastation of 2013. That incident will be a little over a year old, so the results from the various organizations responding will have had time to be evaluated from a boots-on -the-ground experience.”
The 2014 Disaster Response Academy will scale classes to match the level of the participant’s involvement. As an attendee you will benefit from training that is geared to what you need to know–whether you respond to disasters through your Church, District or Annual Conference levels of responsibility. Scholarships are available to qualified participants, to reduce the expense of attending this years Academy.DeWitt requests “On behalf of the UMCOR and SCJ organizers, I ask you to mark your calendars and plan to attend in September.
